The upcoming fighting game is doing justice to its name as it really seems like the Ultimate edition of the game series.
Today (August 8th) we joined Smash Bros. series director Masahiro Sakurai for a Nintendo Direct focused on Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The event started off strong with the reveal of Simon Belmont, of the Castlevania series, as a playable character with his famous whip as a weapon - Sakurai said the whip is slow and might put the player in a vulnerable position but its average length is longer than any other character and his Final Smash is the Grand Cross.
Alongside him, a new stage was revealed - Dracula's Castle - where candles spawn items when hit and monster plague the area plus it features over 30 new music tracks. Of course, with addition of his Castle, Dracula couldn't be left out - however he only appears as a boss character alongside another Boss character that hasn't been revealed yet.
On top of that, Richter Belmont also joins the cast as an echo fighter of Simon and Alucard was revealed as an Assist Trophy.
Richter wasn't the only Echo Fighter revealed, as Dark Samus (Samus) and Chrom (Roy) also make their debuts. Players will also be happy to know that Echo Fighters can appear individually or stacked on their counterparts on the Character Select screen.
On the Assist Trophy side, Sakurai wasn't shy and introduced a whooping new 11 characters to help you:
⦁ Zero (Mega Man series)
⦁ Knuckles (Sonic Series)
⦁ Krystal (Star Fox series)
⦁ Klaptrap (Donkey Kong series)
⦁ Kapp'n (Animal Crossing series)
⦁ Chef Kawasaki (Kirby series)
⦁ Gray Fox (Metal Gear series)
⦁ Nikki
⦁ Shovel Knight
⦁ Moon (The Legend of Zelda series)
Rathalos, from the Monster Hunter series, was also revealed as both an Assist Trophy and a Boss. New items, such as Banana Gun, Killing Edge and Death's Scythe and more were revealed alongside new Pokémon including Alolan Exeggutor, Abra, Lunala and Ditto.
New Donk City Hall was shown as a new stage bringing the number of stages to an incredible number of 103, including new and classic stages, and all of these are available to the player from the beginning. Players will also be able to choose from around 900 tracks and over 28 hours of music now organized by game series on the My Music mode - players will also be able to turn off the screen and use their Nintendo Switch as a music player. You can check some of the tracks available right now on the Smash Bros. website.
New game modes were also shown:
Squad Strike - 3v3 or 5v5 battle mode
Tournament mode - Randomly generated Tournament up to 32 players.
Smashdown - Previously selected characters can't be used on the next battle
Training mode - Now with an exclusive new stage in which it will display Launch Distance.
Sakurai showed off the new Main Menu look, including a blurred out mode which he can't talk about yet and bids his farewell to the fans.
But the Nintendo Direct didn't come an end without first revealing a new character - King K.Rool - the main antagonist from the Donkey Kong franchise.
With the addition of King K. Rool, the number of playable characters is now 71 and Sakurai promised to reveal more before the release of the game on December 7th, 2018.
