[GAME] Nosferatu The Wrath of Malachi Review

Updated: Oct 20, 2018

Developer: Idol FX

Publisher: iGames

Genre: FPS Horror

Format: PC

Released: October 21, 2003

Nosferatu takes place in 1912 alongside the titanic in a pretty atmospheric castle. It’s not the scariest of places but does give you an oppressive vibe. You can feel it straight away as the main door is pretty cross. The main courtyard is a safe area, well other than the window breaking clergyman. The main goal is to save as many relatives or civilians as possible before Malachi Malarises from his slumber. All item and relatives placements are randomised except for a select few as the castle is randomly generated for every new game.

Voice actors definitely had fun with the dialogue which is pretty refreshing compared to now where everything has to be super serious and lack personality. The Ai can be extremely picky at times. Try not to sprint for too long becasue they will lose sight of you and stand still until you give them a pep talk so they continue following you. They will fight the enemies however so they do have that going for them. Some of the NPC models are hilarious, others cleave nothing to the imagination. Bosses are a piece of cake with sprinkles on top and a side of hot chocolate. They won’t be giving you any problems. Multiple standard enemies give you more trouble than any of the bosses. Cartwheel Jill is the toughest of the bosses but is still easily beaten.

Speaking of combat, the controls are your standard FPS point and click thing does a die you continue you quest affair but seem to be more forgiving as well. Due to this no matter where you hit an enemy the damage is the same. No crits here.

The bonus for saving relatives is new weapons, Armour and potions. Some of which are extremely useful others not so much. For example the holy Chalice is extremely powerful and can be filled at many locations. Make sure this is filled and you will breeze past anything that comes across your path. You can also get some garlic to ward off monsters which begs the question Have I been packing my suitcases wrong because I always forget to put 5kgs of garlic in there. You can also get a canine companion which is pretty cool. The AI for Buster the vampire biting dog is a little better at keeping up with you but he enjoys hiding for a decade, resurrecting and then eventually leaping down a flight of stairs to his demise.

Saving all the realtives has no effect of either of the 2 endings by the way. Pretty disappointing as there should be a 3rd ending for saving everybody but I guess the developers knew buster was a liability. So if you were worried about that, then don’t be. You can even open the sutcases for those who have died by saving 1 or 2 relatives near the end of the game as they have a skeleton key for all the suitcases, the filthy garlic thieves.

Stamina potion glitch, haste potion can get you killed, The horror factor is better than most in this game as some enemies hide in certain spots to jump out at you or they just blink into existence for an extra keep you on your toes moment. Torches are actually useful. Overall Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi earns a solid 7 out of 10.

If you don't like this then you can bite me.... with love - Mamushi
