This review is going to be a little shorter than usual as this game lasted just shy of 40 minutes and thus lacks a significant amount of talking points. However, this does not mean that the game isn’t worth your time. Keyboard Sports – Saving QWERTY is an action, adventure and indie title in which you utilise every key on your keyboard to control a young apprentice in his quest to take CTRL, make some T and then ESC [INSERT more KEY puns. There’s plenty of SPACE] as you advance through a fast-paced 5 chapter campaign.

The game is currently unreleased on the market, but it is however available to Humble Bundle’s monthly subscribers in the Humble Trove. If you didn’t already know, the Humble Trove offers an ever growing selection of games that any monthly subscribers will have access too, this includes a range of Humble Original as well as DRM-free games. An early preview version of Keyboard Sports – Saving QWERTY is currently available within the Humble Trove for you to play.

The gameplay itself is simply charming and unique. As mentioned before, you use every key on your keyboard to control your character in a series of intriguing and challenging puzzles. Whether it be crossing the road without being run over or fighting off hordes of little demon dudes with a crossbow, it’s always enjoyable. The levels so far have been fairly short, but the game benefits from its short levels, especially when you can waste time by messing around with the physics based items. There is plenty of scope for the developers to add tons of unique and elaborate levels with the game’s full release.

The art style in Keyboard Sports is very simplistic but also fits the tone of the game very well. The contrasting colours and bright tones give the game a fresh and funky feeling, especially when combined with the fast-paced music and humorous sound effects. The in game dialogue has plenty of hilarious keyboard puns and a bunch of other funny phrases.

The game is all about fun and frustratingly challenging levels that leave you wondering why on earth you are struggling when the level appears so very simple. Keyboard Sports cleverly panics you into make silly little mistakes such as falling into a lava pit for no reason or skiing directly into a tree without ducking. It is always satisfying to complete one of these levels, especially if you were having issues, for me, this happened in chapter five where I just kept getting myself eaten. Over and over and over again…

To summarise, I urge any of you that are Humble Bundle monthly subscribers to try this game out from the Humble Trove. It is a delightful experience and I will be eagerly awaiting the full release. I really hope that this is title is taken in the right direction. It is simply crying out for multiplayer, level editor / user-created levels, as well as a fleshed out campaign. It shows great promise as long as the developers make the right choices going forward. It is such a unique way to play games, I just hope it can catch on.
