The news were leaked yesterday but quickly deleted, but today Blizzard has officially announced Diablo 3 is making its way to Nintendo Switch.
Diablo 3: Eternal Collection will feature all the content, including the expansions Reaper of Souls and Rise of the Necromancer, released up until now. No proper release date was given, but per senior producer Pete Stilwell, Blizzard is looking for a “fall this year” release.
Nintendo Switch owners will also get a Ganondorf inspired armor set, a cucco pet, a Triforce portrait frame and wings for your character. For those of you worried that you might have to go through the game’s Campaign again to unlock Adventure Mode, fear not as Blizzard confirmed Adventure Mode will be available from the get-go.
Like previous iterations, Diablo 3 for Switch will allow up to 4 players both on a single console and Online as well as allowing 4 Nintendo Switches to be connected wirelessly. But if online is not your thing and since Switch is also a portable console, Diablo 3 will be available fully offline apart from Seasons.
Online will be supported by the new Nintendo Switch paid service which launches in September and players will be able to save their offline progress to Cloud service as soon as the Switch reconnects to the internet without having to launch the game. Players will be able to port their cloud saves to a friend’s Switch and play with their character on that console.
Unfortunately, any progress made on PC or a non-Switch console will not be able to be ported to Nintendo Switch’s version of the game. Cross-play will also not be available although Blizzard did not fully shut-down of a possible future implementation.
The game will run at 60FPS on both docked and undocked and at 720P for the docked mode and 960P for undocked.
